A vast wealth of wisdom and culture comes from India: The
Vedas, The Mahabhara, Kalidasa, Buddha, Upanishads, and so
on. The historical connection between India and the Western
World is vastly under-rated, yet obvious: Herodotus wrote
commentaries on India's culture, Alexander knew there was
something in India worth fighting for. There are hints of
India's past in the story of Jesus, the works of
Parminides, the philosophy of Heidegger (but then again,
who didn't Heidegger plagiarize?).
Right now we have the complete texts of Kalidasa's
Shakuntala and
The Cloud Messenger.
We will always be adding to
our own book collection, but one excellent online resource
for books is at Project Gutenberg.
Enjoy!
